Many physical and engineering processes may be described by systems of non-linear partial differential equations relating to certain primitive variables. Very often the choice of the physcial model affects the type of solutions and computational time of the process. Defining the most suitable model in its appropriate region is important, not only for the correct description of the physical phenomena but for an efficient and accurate numerical simulation. Matching conditions are required to bring the heterogeneous models together. In the limiting case when there is only one model being involved, the matching conditions are those used in classical domain decomposition methods.
This three-day workshop aims to provide expository lectures and state-of-the-art techniques of solving industrial problems related to the use of domain decomposition methods. The objective of the workshop will inform and serve to exchange experiences amongst engineers, mathematicians and postgraduate researchers with this advanced technology for the application in large scale engineering and industrial processes. Topics such as, but not limited to, boundary layer flows over moving objects, underground water flows, two-phase flows, three-phase flows, solidification in a casting process, fluid structure interaction, blood flow simulation, etc. are welcome. The workshop will also concentrates on software and algorithmic issues related to non-linear problems.
The workshop format includes expository lectures on heterogenous
domain decomposition methods, reports on current research topics of
domain decomposition methods, and discussions on domain decomposition
library and software issues to be given by several distinguish researchers
in these areas. Potential participants are invited to submit an abstract
of no more than 2 A4 pages for presentation. Participants presenting papers would require to produce their papers in poster forms during a discussion session to encourage interaction and exchange of experiences.
Dr C.-H. Lai, Professor M. Cross, Professor A.K. Parrott, Professor K.A. Pericleous.
Abstract submission: Two A4 pages of abstract to be submitted on/before 15th June, 2001. Abstract should be submitted as a postscript or plain text file attached to an email message and sent to C.H.Lai@gre.ac.uk
Notification of acceptance: 30th June, 2001
Registration deadline: 15th August, 2001
There is a small charge of £45 per person to cover various organisational work, tea and coffee at breaks, lunches, and a book of abstracts.
Scholarships are available to approximately 15 postgraduate students/young researchers to cover 2 nights of bed and breakfast with supper.
The registration form may be returned as a fax or an attachment to an email message.
