Please examine the Copyright pages, and the associated forms before submitting your manuscripts.  Please use the navigation bar at the bottom of this page or the underscored hyperlinks in this paragraph.

Formatting your manuscript

The primary and preferred medium for submission is MS Word.  Sorry about this if you  are a Latex person, but the restriction is in order to ease the editorial process.

1.   MS Word.  See the Sample Word Document for the required format. A template is available.

The use of MathType, the formula editor which extends Word's formula editor is permitted and should allow most mathematical equations to be expressed adequately. Note however, that only users who have  MathType will be able to read your equations from your Word document. A pdf version will be sent to reviewers, and also be the form used for publication.

2.  Submission in Latex.  Only in exceptional circumstances will a Latex submission be considered. For example, when the ms has already been prepared in Latex and the ms involves many complex mathematical equations. the covering submission letter to the Editor should made the case for use of Latex.

A source Latex file must be submitted, and a copy of the manuscript in (single-spaced) pdf form, with lines number within pages, for reviewing purposes.  Please follow the guidelines of the Sample Word Document  in preparing your LaTeX document. A text or rtf file containing the article title, author details, abstract, and keywords should also be submitted if the article is accepted, and is prepared in Latex. This will be used to construct the Volume Contents pages and and the associated abstracts.

Please keep the submitted document as simple as possible.  Hence, you are requested to turn automatic section numbering OFF.  Please do NOT use labels for Figures, Tables and Equations.  Their use can cause difficulties in re-formatting the article, and MS is likely to change the way these facilities work in the future.  Please use JPEG or GIFF formats for embedded graphics.

The submitted manuscript should have the overall arrangement and structure which is as close to the final published form as possible. Hence all Figures and Tables should be embedded in the flow of the manuscripts at the appropriate places. Please do not send Figures and Tables and their legends separately as is normal in traditional hard-copy journals. Please do not send Post-Script files.  Any manuscript which does not follow this arrangement will be returned with a request for re-structuring, prior to possible review.

While you are encouraged to make full use of colour, graphics and textual hyperlinks please do not use advanced web programming constructs (such is image hyperlinks or dynamic constructs) within the article. You may include supplementary files with your submission to which you may link in your article, e.g. Excel spreadsheets. However, files requiring advanced web facilities on the host FBMIS server should not be used.  You should provide a link to your own home URL for such purposes, and provide the Editor this URL address in your submission so that the link can be included in the journal references.  If you wish to make model code, interactive simulations, or data available to readers then these might be included in an associated submission to the Forest Model Archive, (FMA).

All papers must be written in English. British or American spelling may be used, but the same standard must be used through out the article. We apologize to non-native English speakers for this limitation, but there would not seem to be sufficient language skills amongst potential reviewers in order to ensure uniform and high standards if we were to accept submissions in French, German, Spanish, Chinese,... etc. Authors who are not native English speakers are advised to have their manuscript proof read by a native English speaker prior to submission. The language policy of FBMIS will be kept under review.

Please provide a list of up to SIX potential reviewers for your submitted paper.  These should be experts and be well able to make an objective assessment of your paper.  Reviewer guidelines are provided on another page of this site.  The reviewers should not have been directly involved in the work on which your paper is based.  Reviewers are anonymous to the authors of the papers they review. Your suggested reviewer names may or may not be used.
