This PMKD4 DEXA Workshop is based is on the theses that:

1.  The data-mining "Diaspora" can only really become a coherent discipline if clearly enunciated and extensive methodologies are developed for the core data exploration-mining process.
2.  Meaning can only be given to discovered patterns and relationships in the context of metadata ontologies
3.  Meaning can only be given to discovered patterns and relationships if we have a theory of knowledge which allows interpretation of discoveries in the presence of error, randomness and redundancies.
4.  That the ontology and epistemology developed for a coherent knowledge discovery strategy should be the basis of efforts to deploy discovered knowledge, and to develop knowledge-based Decision Support Systems.

Hence the title for the Workshop.

We aspire to meaningful Knowledge Discovery, in the context of prior business knowledge, and with the aim of effective knowledge deployment in the context of business aims.
